Syrians protesters
Syrian activists claimed today that Syrian security forces have started a military campaign against Al Qadam neighborhood in Damascus by besieging and closing all entrances; they surrounded the
neighborhood and put a curfew in place and began arresting a large number of people. The activists claimed that heavy fighting in the town of Zabadani between the Army and security forces and the activists too place, where an exchange of heavy machine gun firing could be heard for several hours. They also claimed that large explosions and gun firing could be heard from Latakia.
In Aleppo, security forces forced the family of one of the victims to cancel their wake in the city; where a curfew has been enforced on the population. In Duma wives, mothers and children held a sit-in in their town and called for the release of their loved ones who were captured by the forces. In Damascus a group of Syrian lawyers held a sit-in inside the Palace of Justice in the designated area for lawyers which lasted for three hours. Other sources confirmed that more military forces were brought to Hums, where earlier yesterday tanks have taken control of the neighborhoods in Bab al Sebaa, Duraib, Khalidia and Qusoor, in addition to Bayyada and 60th Street.
According to Human Rights organizations these security campaigns disconnected both land and mobile phone lines. In Washington D.C spokeswoman for the US Department of State Victoria Nuland said in a statement released today that the Syrian Army’s behaviors as inhumane and reaffirmed that President Bashar Al Assad has lost his legitimacy. In addition, she described the actions of the Syrian security forces who were involved in the killing of innocent civilians as unjustified, and their torturing and arresting others as a breach of human rights. Nuland added: “Assad became an obstacle in the way of Syria’s stability and not a key figure who could achieve that.”
