Sanaa - Arabstoday
The Saudi terrorist Saeed al-Shehri Al Qaeda denies the death of Said al Shehri, a close source to al Qaeda told Arabstoday. One of the most dangerous al Qaeda members, Said al Shehri, has been reported killed in an air strike in eastern Yemen, the Yemeni army revealed on Monday.
The man was seen as the second in command of al Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula. A statement on the defence ministry news website read: \"The Saudi terrorist Saeed al-Shehri, the second man in Al-Qaeda, was killed in a quality operation by the armed forces in Hadramawt.\" The Yemeni army claimed that 6 other members of the organisation died in the attack. It remains unclear whether the attack was performed by a US drone or by the Yemeni army itself. There are no information about any air raids on the Hadramaut on Monday. Local sources suggest that al-Shehri was killed in a previous drone attack in the centre of Hadramaut, and at least 8 people were killed.
In February 2012, The Yemini authorities had already announced the killing of al-Shehri and of 5 other members in an explosion in Abyan Governorate, southern Yemen, but he appeared again in many videos filmed in Yemen. He is suspected to be involved in suicide bombings, which targeted the US Embassy in Sanaa in September 2008.Al Shehri was believed to be involved in the kidnappings and murders of several foreigners in Yemen. He was arrested in 2001 after 9/11 and was sent to Guantanamo detention camps for six years. He was repatriated to Saudi Arabia where he integrated a rehabilitation programme. He moved to Yemen once he was set free.
