Algeria - Rabia Khreis
Head of Libya’s Presidential Council Fayez Al Sarraj arrived in Algeria for a one-day visit to hold meetings with Algerian senior officials to discuss the recent developments over the relations between the two countries and the ways to end the current Libyan crisis in the light of the role performed by Algeria to reach a political solution for the Libyan crisis.
Sarraj praised the strong relations between Algeria and Libya, saying that such strong relations have been reflected in the recent visit conducted by Algerian Minister of Maghreb Affairs Abdel Qader Masahel. He stressed the visit was successful and reflects the deep relations between the two countries.
Regarding his visit to Algeria, Sarraj said that the visit comes in the framework of continuous meetings between the officials of the two countries, expressing his appreciation to the efforts exerted by the Algerian government to find serious solutions for the Libyan crisis.
Sarraj’s statement came to refute a statement issued by Libyan parliament loyal to Marshal Khalifa Haftar over the visit conducted by the Algerian minister to Libya’s southern cities near the Libyan borders with Algeria. The Libyan parliament described the tour conducted by the Algerian official in the border area as a clear violation against the Libyan sovereignty.
In his response to a question if he recognizes Haftar as the leader of Libyan army, Sarraj said, “Sure, he is the general commander of the Libyan army upon the decision of the Libyan parliament.”
