The president of the National Transitional Council for Cyrenaica Ahmed Zubair al-Senussi

The president of the National Transitional Council for Cyrenaica Ahmed Zubair al-Senussi The president of the National Transitional Council (NTC) for Cyrenaica Ahmed Zubair al-Senussi declared his willingness to open a dialogue with the president of the NTC Mustafa Abdul Jalil, following his letter about the formation of the state’s ruling system.
Al-Senussi said, in an interview with the BBC that was broadcasted on Friday, that the NTC’s Cyrenian division has no intention to divide Libya, as it has paid a heavy price for the sake of Libya’s unity. About implementing federalism, al-Senussi has called for the authorities to be more transparent, demanding the NTC reveal the names of all its members and the way they spend public money.
Al-Senussi, who had declared a few days earlier he would like Cyrenaica to be a semi-autonomous territory, said that the federal system was chosen by Cyrenians. The NTC member has stressed as well the willingness of his people to reach a solution with the government that guarantees their territory’s rights.
Talking about who wants federalism in Cyrenaica, al-Senussi said: “The elders and the intellectuals made the decision, and I accepted the presidency”. He denied that external powers lurk behind the calls to federalism.
The chairman of the NTC, Mustafa Abdul Jalil, had called Cyrenians to engage in a dialogue with the Council in the country’s interest.
