Moroccan appointed Prime Minister Abdelilah Benkirane stated, Saturday, that the anticipated government is to be announced in 48 hours, along with the portfolios to be assigned to each party within the majority coalition
and the number of cabinet members, granted that the total number of ministerial portfolios does not exceed 28 ministries; where Justice and Development Party is to take over 15 ministries, and 13 are allotted to allied parties.
Benkirane explained in a press statement “the final form of the new government will be clearly completed within the next few hours, after the party has settled its proposals. Matters have become clearer for the allied parties, whether concerning the portfolios they want to be in charge of, or the people to be assigned to these portfolios.” Benkirane stated that the number of ministerial portfolios in the forthcoming government would be 28, noting that the said government structure “made strides, and is currently in its final stages.”
‘Arabstoday’ was informed that Benkirane succeeded in convincing the secretary generals of the parties in the majority coalition, during a meeting held on Friday, December 23, that his party takes over 15 ministerial portfolios, of which 12 are of great importance.
PJD ministers’ commission held a meeting, Saturday, to propose the names to be in charge of the 15 ministries allotted to the party, with accordance to the procedures and criteria determined by the party’s ministers and approved by its national council.
Members of said commission discuss five names, from which only one is to be selected to run each governmental sector, which means that 75 names have been proposed for ministerial positions, each of them meeting the criteria determined the by the party’s national council; which are based upon honesty, integrity, competence, and commitment to the party.
Sources told ‘Arabstoday’ that PJD agreed with its allies to run the following ministerial portfolios: Finance, Justice, Foreign Affairs, Equipment and Transportation, Education, Parliament Relations, Fishing, Economy, Public Affairs, Governance and Territorial Integrity, Culture and Media.
