National carrier Oman Air will add eight new routes by 2020, a senior official of the airline said.
Giving details, the official said that they plan to add Johannesburg, Seoul, Osaka, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Istanbul. “These routes are under study,” the official said.
The official also said the national carrier plans to operate 781 flights a week by 2020. Currently it operates 650 flights a week from its hub in Muscat.
The official was speaking during the Ministry of Tourism organised Get Connected forum, held on Wednesday to boost tourism initiatives in Oman.
In Nairobi, Abdulrahman Al Busaidy, Deputy CEO and Executive Vice President- Commercial, Oman Air had said that the national carrier of Oman is looking at launching flights to Sudan, Mombasa in Kenya, Baghdad in Iraq, Poland and Romania. ‘When we looked at Khartoum in Sudan earlier, it was not encouraging, but we are still studying that market,” he had said, adding Mombasa in Kenya is another destination Oman Air wants to add in the next couple of years.
