The Pakistani civil awards are the most honorable accolades presented to civilians who have made the nation proud. This year, on Aug. 14, ‘Manto’ star Sarmad Khoosat made it to the list, and is to receive the President’s Award for Pride of Performance.
Sarmad told The Express Tribune, “It is extremely overwhelming and no words of gratitude will suffice the love, acceptance and appreciation my country and people of my country have showered me with. I hope and pray that I won’t let them down, ever. I will be eternally indebted to this ‘mitti‘.”
Khoosat has directed dramas such as ‘Humsafar’ and ‘Shehr-e-Zaat’, and he’s played the lead role in ‘Manto’.
The announcement of this award, and other government conferred civil awards, is generally made once a year on Pakistan’s Independence Day. The awards are then presented by the President of Pakistan on the March 23 every year.
This year, respectable artists like Humaira Channa, Ustad Ashraf Sharif Khan, Javed Iqbal, Ghazi Salahuddin, Mustansar Hussain Tarar also bagged awards for music and literature, respectively.
The entertainment industry shared loved on Sarmad’s win by congratulating him on Twitter.
