Dubia - Arabstoday
Standard Chartered employee Zakeeya Rafeea has been honoured by the Dubai Police for returning the Dhs150,000 that she had found outside the bank’s branch on Mankhool Road in Dubai. Major Ghaleb Abdallah Mohamed Al Ghafli, deputy director of Al Rafaa Police Station, recently visited Zakeeya at her office and presented her with a certificate of commendation in appreciation of her integrity and high-minded public spirit. Zakeeya is the first individual to be recognised for commendable public spirit at her own workplace by the Dubai Police. Honouring acts of this nature is in line with an initiative launched by authorities at the Dubai Police to reach out and recognise members of the community in the presence of their colleagues and managers. Zakeeya, who has been working with the bank for seven years in its Mortgage Loans department, had this to say: “It was a natural reaction for me to return something that didn’t belong to me. I am just happy to be able to turn around someone’s misfortune.” Jonathan Morris, chief executive of Standard Chartered in the United Arab Emirates, said, “Zakeeya displayed the values that we live by at the bank. We are very proud of Zakeeya and would like to thank the police authorities for recognising her honesty and integrity.”
