Argentine central bank governor Juan Carlos Fabrega resigned Wednesday, the president's office said, as the country tried to fight its way out of an economic slowdown and a debt default.
It came as the Buenos Aires stock market tumbled 8.22 percent to close at 11,516.28 points after President Cristina Kirchner charged in an emotional address that domestic and American interests were pushing to topple her government, amid a bitter US court battle over its defaulted debt.
