Iranian researchers have built a robot for rehabilitation of people suffering stroke which can return hands power to these individuals in four phases, the lead author of the study said.
“We delivered robotic laboratory equipment in the study for industrial and rehabilitation purposes,” said Esmayeel Qareh khani, the Iranian students' new agency reported.
“We designed a rehabilitation robot for people with brain lesion, which is capable of rehabilitating hands,” he said, adding the robot help these people return link between their hands and brain network.
The first phase is diagnosis phase, during which some tracks are shown in the monitor. The patient puts his hand on the robot’s arm and takes its handle to lead the arm towards the tracks.
In the second phase, the patients who lack control on their arms take the robot’s handle to move towards a specific direction. The robot helps the patients and brings back sense to the patient’s hands after several days.
In the next phase, the patient can move the handle without any resistance and move towards the intended place.
