Wireless Internet users in Taiwan account for 42.4 percent of the island\'s population, according to a report published Wednesday by the Taiwan Network Information Center (TWNIC). The \"2012 Survey of Wireless Network Usage in Taiwan\" said that as of Oct. 3, a total of 9.76 million people above the age of 12 had used wireless networks in the past six months, a year-on-year increase of 11.9 percent. Taiwan is one of the most important IT manufacturers in the global market. A well-developed mobile network infrastructure has been established across the island. Almost 68 percent of surveyed wireless users have had complaints about slow network speeds and instability; however, 69 percent of users are satisfied with the quality of the island\'s networks. The survey showed that smartphones have become the primary method for most people to access wireless Internet services, superseding laptops. The survey also showed that people used their mobile devices to visit social networking sites twice as much this year in comparison to last year.
