SRMG Managing Director Azzam Al-Dakhil, a former minister of education, released a book written by him titled “With the Teacher” after signing it at the Riyadh International Book Fair on Saturday.
Al-Dakhil, who accompanied his former teacher Mohamed Al-Yusuf to the signing platform during a simple ceremony, said the publication was the greatest tribute he could pay to the teaching profession.
He recalled that this book was nothing to do with the education minister portfolio he held for a brief period of 10 months. He said the book mainly focused on youths and their role in education and other sectors.
“I can still remember how my teacher used to encourage me to study in the classroom,” he said, while appreciating the yeoman services rendered by Al-Yusuf.
Al-Yusuf presented a memento to Al-Dakhil who gratefully accepted the gift from his teacher who groomed him from childhood.
Recalling his early education in a school built of mud, Al-Dakhil said the teacher was the attraction in such an environment and the teacher was the role model in life of students.
“A good teacher, student, environment and curriculum are the basic pillars needed to build proper education,” he said, adding that students look up to the teacher in resolving problems in school.
Quoting his teacher, he said, people should learn to “be honest and should not tell lies.”
In response to Al-Dakhil's statement to the media, Al-Yusuf said that Al-Dakhil had proven himself as one the the cleverest and persevering children during his school days. “Such wisdom and hard work has brought him to such a good position in life today,” he added.
The teacher explained that those days the teacher played a predominant role in the children's education since most parents did not have much knowledge about the importance of education. “Children come to school because of the motivation of the teacher,” he added.
