Patrick Heery has been named as the new UK editor of the BBC News website, as Gary Duffy returns to São Paulo as editor of BBC Brasil. The broadcaster confirmed that Heery, who has been editor of BBC Newswire since June 2010, will take over from Duffy who, according to his LinkedIn profile, will officially take up his role in São Paulo at the end of May. It is understood that Duffy was UK editor of the BBC News website from 2000 to 2007 and again held this role from 2010 until now. From 2007 to 2010 he was a correspondent in Brazil. In a statement editor of BBC News Online Steve Herrman said: "Pat has a wealth of editorial and management experience in Online, Newswire and the wider Newsroom, and is ideally placed to lead the UK online operation as we make the transition to W1. "His recent work developing our breaking news and social media output, his sharp editorial eye and his experience and insight into the production process across different platforms will be great assets as we continue to evolve the way we deliver our journalism for digital services."
