Cairo - MENA
A parliamentary delegation is set to meet with the board of the Syndicate of Journalists later Tuesday in a bid to solve an ongoing problem with the Interior Ministry, with the two sides sticking to their view points.
A delegation of the media committee will be sitting with the board today, said head of the committee Osama Heikal, stressing that the Syndicate of Journalists is not seen as a defendant in the case. Indeed, the Syndicate of Journalists is an essential player, Heikal said, assuring that the committee is impartially handling the issue.
Heikal made it clear that the media committee had received a letter from the Ministry of Interior, stressing that, as an executive authority, it was only acting in line with a prosecution warrant, denying accusations that troops had stormed the Syndicate of Journalists and used force in arresting the suspects.
The Ministry of Interior also stressed respect for all state institutions, trade unions and NGOs, Heikal added.
