First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said Tuesday the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) was important as a bloc because it would preserve future of the Gulf people.
Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled hoped the GCC witnessed more achievements that would further strengthen solidarity among its six members and thus honor aspirations of the Gulf people.
The GCC has succeeded in overcoming all challenges it has faced since its establishment 33 years ago, said Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled at the opening of the 2nd GCC Media Forum, held to discuss state of Gulf media between opinion and news-writing.
Information Minister Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah meanwhile called for unification of the GCC media address in order to tackle extremism and sectarianism among the youth.
Sheikh Salman, also Minister of State for Youth Affairs, said media have great role in formulating public opinion, in addition to preserving the cultural and civilizational identity.
Abdullateef Al-Zayani, Secretary General of the GCC, said the GCC Media Forum was a good venue to discuss issued of concern to the Gulf citizens.
He called on media could play an influential role to confronting terrorism and sectarianism.
