Board Chairman and Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Sabah on Tuesday welcomed heads and directors of GCC news agencies who will arrive here next week to attend the 18th meeting of GCC news agencies hosted by Kuwait.
Sheikh Mubarak said in a statement that the meeting, which will be held under the patronage of Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah between September 23-25, will tackle ways of addressing various issues related to the development of media discourse in line with modern developments.
He added that the meeting would be of great significance in light of the changes and developments taking place in the Middle East, a matter that requires the media to play a meaningful and distinct role in this respect.
Sheikh Mubarak said the Gulf media, along with its various institutions, and despite its progress achieved in the previous period, "we still aspire to keep pace with the rapid global development in this area." He added that the Arab media in general and the Gulf in particular, can compete with the global media, pointing to the existence of sufficient capabilities, expertise and highly qualified personnel.
Sheikh Mubarak stressed the importance of cooperation among the various Arab media organizations and the exchange of ideas, insights and experiences in order to enhance information services, tools and modern technologies.
He pointed to the ongoing communication and consultation between the media institutions in the GCC countries in order to exchange views, coordinate positions and unify visions about the various issues of concern to the Arab world.
