Former President of China Central Television (CCTV) Yang Weiguang, who held the helm of the state broadcaster in the 1990s, has died. He was 79.
According to the official Weibo account of CCTV News, Yang died of illness on Saturday night.
Known as one of the earliest pioneers in China's TV industry, Yang created many influential TV programs. The Weibo post praised Yang as the man who had led the most successful reform so far in the CCTV history.
