The 18th Meeting of the GCC News Agencies Officials kicked off today in Kuwait, under the patronage of Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Shaikh Salman Sabah Salim Al-Hamad.
Bahrain News Agency (BNA)'s delegation was headed by its Director-General, Mohannad Sulaiman Al-Nuaimi.
Board Chairman, Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaj Al-Sabah welcomed GCC news agencies' chiefs and accompanying delegations, wishing them success in the meeting.
Shaikh Mubarak affirmed the importance of constant communication and ongoing consultation among GCC news agencies' chiefs to get updated about the latest regional and international developments, find ways to address them and to exchange views on them, in order to upgrade GCC media and keep abreast of international media.
The meeting addressed a number of important issues related to the development of GCC media, including the project of a unified site for GCC news agencies implemented by BNA, as well as the role of GCC agencies in promoting patriotism and joint media work strategy as well as establishing technical and editorial workshops.
The meeting discussed the recommendations of GCC news agencies' technical committees, including BNA's report about GCC unified site and the unified twitter account.
The participants commended BNA's report about a unified GCC site's proposal all the details included, and they agreed that GCC news agencies will provide BNA with their visions and proposals no later than next October, as the Technical Committee will hold an extraordinary meeting in the Kingdom of Bahrain to discuss its own views for the proposed site and will hold discussions with the company in charge of implementing the project in order to launch the site on time.
The participants also praised BNA's efforts to launch of GCC news agencies' unified application on social media.
BNA launched the unified application for smart devices in the exhibition accompanying the 34th GCC Summit, in Kuwait.
Several proposals Saudi Press Agency (SPA) were approved, including SPA's call to hold a workshop entitled "Multimedia", next November, as well as the proposal on the importance of activating the joint site for sharing photos.
BNA was represented in the meeting by the Acting Head of Research and information Adel Abdullah, Editor in Chief Amer Abdulrahman and Acting Head of Electronic Media Abdulraheem Janahi.
