Manama - Arab Today
Bahraini MPS have unanimously voted in favour of establishing sea taxis in the kingdom.
The proposal, which will be referred to the Cabinet for a decision, aims to introduce an alternate form of public transport while also promoting it as a tourist attraction, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
"We believe as Bahrain faces huge traffic jams on the roads that sea could be an alternative means of transportation," said MP Mohammed Al Ammadi, who spearheaded the proposal.
"Bahrain is an archipelago and it is easy to implement sea transportation projects that could be expanded for tourists."
MPs have received feedback from government ministries including the Industry and Commerce Ministry that said the proposal needed further study, and the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry which preferred a private company operating the service.
