At the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, GM’s headline European division of Opel/Vauxhall, are scheduled to unveil a 250W electric assisted mountain bike with a range of between 37 and 90 miles (60-145 km). The huge variation in range depends on how many hills there are, and how lazy the rider is.The Opel/Vauxhall RAD-e is set to become the first e-bike to be designed and constructed using automotive manufacturing processes. Hopefully that’ll mean mass production leading to a lower final price. Electric assisted mountain bikes are still massively more expensive than their 100 per cent man-powered cousins. Oddly, with the help of a large automotive company, that price difference could be significantly narrowed. The styling of the RAD e is designed to fit in somewhat with the design theme of Opel/Vauhall cars. As such it has a few of the boomerang shapes associated with the Opel Ampera and RAK e concept car.
