Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker

The Electricity Ministry is on high alert to cater for the Egyptians' rising need of electricity during school and university exams and the holy fasting month of Ramadan in scorching summer season.

A rise in temperature has a ripple impact on the efficiency of power stations, transmission stations and other electric equipment.

Emergency units will operate as of May 31, Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said.

The minister said he gave strict orders to the heads of all electricity companies and stations to work hard to ensure that all stations are working efficiently.

He added that maintenance of stations will be finalized in line with the set plan.

He urged people to cut off electricity consumption in rush hours.
