A magnitude-3.5 aftershock struck regions near Gyeongju in South Korea on Wednesday, the country's meteorological agency said. The area was hit by the strongest earthquake ever in South Korea's history last week.

The aftershock was detected an area 10 kilometers southwest of the historical city, according to South Korea's news Agency (Yonhap).

On September 12, the city, located 370 km southeast of Seoul, was rocked by two quakes, one of which was a magnitude 5.8, the strongest to hit the Korean Peninsula to date.
