Hurricane Joaquin has been upgraded to Category 4 and is extremely dangerous, US forecasters said Thursday.

The update on the Atlantic storm came as Joaquin barreled toward the central Bahamas. Its maximum sustained winds have increased to 130 miles (210 kilometers) per hour, the National Hurricane Center said.
