BHP reported an annual net profit of $5.89 billion on Tuesday, returning into the black after a large loss last year, boosted by stronger commodity prices.

The world's biggest miner recorded underlying profit of $6.73 billion for the year to June 30, a measure that strips out one-off writedowns, which was just under analysts' expectations.
