The EU agreed Thursday on new sanctions against North Korea, diplomatic sources told AFP, as the international community steps up efforts punish the pariah state for its nuclear weapons programme.

The 28-country bloc has agreed a new package of measures, including a ban on investments in North Korea and on European Union exports of oil, the sources said on condition of anonymity.
