Ex-Soviet Uzbekistan's strongman President Islam Karimov has extended his decades-long grip on power after beating opponents with 90.39 percent of the vote, the country's election commission said on Monday.
"17.2 million people or 90.39 percent of the electorate gave their vote to Islam Karimov," said Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov, head of the republic's election commission.
