Iraqi forces said they recaptured an important crossing on the border with Syria from the Islamic State group on Friday as they advanced into the jihadists' last bastion in Iraq.

"Iraqi forces have regained full control" of the border crossing at Al-Qaim, Iraq's Joint Operations Command said in a statement.
