The National Coalition of the Syrian Opposition called for a snap United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session on the humanitarian conditions in Aleppo.
Representatives from the Group of Friends of the Syrian People have suggested issuing a UN draft resolution on ceasefire, Al Arabiya news channel reported on Friday.
The call coincides with a planned meeting between US President Barrack Obama and his national security aides later in the day to review the options on the table concerning Syria, including the military option.
Syria has been engulfed in deadly civil war since 2011, with the government fighting a number of rebel groups, leaving behind more than 400,000 deaths.
Aleppo, a northern city that was once a thriving trade hub, has become a central battleground in the five-year-Syrian war and is facing a humanitarian disaster.
