At least 20 Syrian soldiers were killed and a warplane was destroyed by opposition forces in clashes in the northern city of Aleppo on Monday, according to the opposition Shaam News Network (SNN).
The opposition fighters, using light, medium and heavy weapons, attacked the regular troops at Bustan Al-Basha district in the city, inflicting heavy human and material damage on the regime; they seized large quantities of munitions.
On the Krom Beit Berry front on the eastern rural outskirts of Aleppo the Hazm movement said its fighters attacked Al-Nairab military airport and destroyed a fighter plane with a BGM-71 TOW anti-tank missile.
The movement released a video showing the operation, according to the SNN report.
Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that the severe cold wave hitting Syria claimed seven lives, including five children.
On its part, the state-run SANA news agency said the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) distributed 1,000 food parcels among the residents of Yelda village on the outskirts of Damascus.
SANA cited director of the political dept. of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Anwar Abdulhadi as accusing the armed groups of blocking the delivery of food aid to the residents of Al-Yarmouk refugee camp, to the south of Damascus.
He said that gunmen opened fire yesterday on aid workers of the SARC and UNRWA who tried to distribute food relief for the Palestinian refugees at Al-Ramah St. according to SANA.
He affirmed that 98 percent of the refugees are committed to the PLO policy of positive neutrality and keep their distance from the warring parties in Syria.
In collaboration with the Syrian government UNRWA and the SARC delivered 60,000 food parcels to the Palestinian refugees so far and evacuated some 7,000 sick people from the camp which has been besieged more than two years.
