The Syrian army foiled on Wednesday an armed attack by some militants in the Farafra district of Aleppo.
Russia Today TV channel quoted a military commander as saying that the militants used tunnels to target the Syrian army's fronts.
A Syrian army unit has destroyed a number of these tunnels and went on clashes with militants, killing and wounding a large number of them, the commander noted.
He added that efforts are underway to locate the remaining tunnels and destroy them.
On Tuesday, Syrian government troops liberated the Farafra district of Aleppo in their latest push against militants who are wreaking havoc in the war-stricken country.
