The Iraqi Army announced Tuesday retreating from Tikrit after succeeding to retake it earlier in the day.
"Control over Nahyat Al-Dhulouiyah has been regained after eradicating it from militants in total," Samaraa Operations Commander Lieutenant General Sabah Al-Fatlawi told reporters.
Nahyat Al-Dhulouiyah is another town in the Salah-Eddin governorate, north of Baghdad.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses in the governorate said heavy fighting broke out between the Army and armed groups in Tikrit, which eventually resulted in the army's retraction after elite forces managed to seize the city from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
