A security source and eyewitnesses said that the sound of the blast heard in central Baghdad was caused by a booby-trapped car that went off in al-Nahda district, causing casualties.
The blast left several persons dead and injured and destroyed a number of vehicles.
So far, the commander of Baghdad operations did not issue any statement on the blast.
The Iraqi capital has become a frequent scene of explosions and suicide bombings, mostly carried out by the Daesh terror group that aims at destabilizing Baghdad.
The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) said Baghdad - whose population stands at 7 million - recorded highest score of violence and terror victims in comparison with the rest of Iraqi governorates.
