Twelve people were killed and 56 others wounded in the armed attack took place last night on the prisons of Abu Ghraib and Taji, a police source said. The police source told the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that five people were killed and 25 wounded in the Taji prison about (20 km) north of Baghdad. He added seven people were killed and 31 others were wounded in the attack on Abu Ghraib prison about (25 km) west of Baghdad. He explained that the attack on the two prisons was coordinated dramatically and began in at same time when the prisons were subjected to mortar shells then six suicide bombers, wearing explosive belts, blew themselves at the gates of the prisons three bombers in each prison amid cover of heavy fire from automatic medium and light weapons. He pointed that some prisoners managed to escape from the Abu Ghraib prison with no escape from Taji prison, indicating that the security forces have tightened their measures around the prisons and started a search operation in search of escaped prisoners.
