Around 50 Iraqi worshipers were killed and 30 others wounded Friday in an attack by armed militia inside a mosque in eastern Baqubah of Diyala province, northeast of the capital.
Following a bomb explosion inside Mosaab bin Omair mosque, the armed militia stormed the mosque and fired on worshipers while performing Friday's prayers, killing 50 and wounding 30 others, a security source in Diyala police told KUNA.
In the same context, Iraqi lawmaker Nahida Al-Dayni indicated to KUNA that many children were among the killed ones, calling on Iraqi government and security authorities at the interior ministry to intervene in order to allow ambulances to reach the area.
Al-Dayni also said that security forces is currently cordoning off the area, disallowing any individual from entrance, adding at the same time that the militia fled the area after they committed "a mass execution during broad daylight".
