Three soldiers and a policeman were killed while seven were wounded in three attacks targeting the security forces in Iraq on Monday, the police said. In Iraq's Salahudin province, three soldiers were killed and four wounded when gunmen attacked their checkpoint on a road in a desert area between the cities of Baiji and Haditah north of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, a provincial police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity. In a separate incident, gunmen attacked a joint police and Iraqi army checkpoint in Haditha, some 200 km northwest of Baghdad, killing a policeman and wounding two soldiers, a local police source anonymously told Xinhua. In Baghdad, an Interior Ministry Brigadier General was critically wounded when a sticky bomb attached to his car detonated while he was driving near al-Nusour Square in the western part of the capital, a ministry source told Xinhua. Violence is still common in the Iraqi cities despite the dramatic decrease since its peak in 2006 and 2007 when the country was engulfed in sectarian killings. Source: XINHUA
