The European Union will deploy over 100 observers and experts in different parts of Pakistan to monitor election activities, Head of the European Union Election Observation Mission to Pakistan Michael Gahier said Monday. The Observer Mission is visiting Pakistan on the invitation of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in connection with May 11 elections,he said when addressing a news conference in Islamabad. He said the European Union Election Observation Mission will provide an independent neutral assessment of the election process and make recommendations for future election reforms. He said the EU Election Observation Mission would consist of a core team of 11 experts, 52 long term observers, and 46 short-term observers. Mr. Gahler thanked Pakistan for providing security to the mission during its stay in the country. Pakistan says it will allow more foreign election observers for the next month polls.
