At least eight paramilitary personnel were killed on Friday in an attack by heavily armed militants on a security check post in Jamrud area of Khyber tribal region of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan, said officials.
According to political administration of Khyber Agency, more than a dozen militants attacked a Frontier Corps check post in Jamrud's Gundi area, followed by a grueling gun-battle that continued for over two hours.
The security officials confirming the attack told media that the militants attacked the check post early on Friday morning killing at least eight security personnel and injuring three others.
Two vehicles of FC forces were completely destroyed in the attack, said officials.
Fresh contingents were called in the area and a search operation went underway. Earlier this month, an armed clash in Jamrud area killed three security personnel and four militants.
Moreover, at least one policeman was killed and three others wounded in an explosion targeting police mobile in Peshawar city of northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan on Friday, said police.
According to police, a police mobile was on routine patrol in Peshawar's Wazir Bagh area when it struck a roadside bomb that went off with a loud explosion. The injured were shifted to the nearby Lady Reading Hospital.
