At least two policemen were killed and a passerby injured when some unknown gunmen attacked at them in Pakistan's southwest Quetta city on Friday, local media reported.
Urdu TV channel Express News reported that the insurgents opened fire at the cops providing security to a mosque during Friday prayer at Patel Road area of Quetta, the capital city of the country's southwest Balochistan province.
The attackers fled the scene following the attack and police has kicked off a search operation to hunt them down.
The injured passerby was shifted to a nearby hospital.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
The attack came two days after security forces arrested seven Taliban militants, who were planning terrorist activities in Quetta, from the Balochistan province.
Balochistan shares border with Afghanistan from its western side and is believed to be a hideout of Taliban militants who also launch terrorist attacks in the city.
Activists of separatist movements are also involved in deteriorating law and order situation in the province.
