Native American actress Misty Upham died of blunt force injury to the head and torso, the King County Medical Examiner's office said Wednesday.
Upham, who was known for roles in Django Unchained and August: Osage County was found dead on Oct. 16 at the bottom of a wooded embankment near the White River in Auburn, Wash.
The medical examiner determined Upham, 32, died Oct. 5, the same day she went missing. The manner of her death is still undetermined.
Auburn Police spokesman Steve Stocker said there was no evidence of foul play and investigators believe the death was accidental.
Upham's family said despite a history of mental illness, they did not believe her death to be suicide.
"Misty has suffered from mental illness most of her life," her father, Charles, wrote in a Facebook post after she disappeared. "With the help of her medical team and family support she is able to manage it well... Misty believes that suicide is a sin and in her darker moments she would tell me, 'Dad, I would never take my own life.'"
Upham was a member of the Blackfeet Nation. She was born in Montana and moved with her family to the Seattle area at the age of 8. At the time of her death, she was helping care for her father, who had recently had a stroke.
