The popularity of employment in the civil service is indicative of the high level of corruption in Russia, President Dmitry Medvedev said on Thursday. "I am greatly worried that young people want to become civil servants and this is not because I dislike civil servants," he said. "However, a number of questions arise when young people choose a career in the civil service. Is it a prestigious position? Not very. Is it well paid? Very badly," he continued. "So this path is chosen as a way of getting rich quick." Medvedev said it was essential to review some job descriptions and job titles, but most importantly, provide adequate remuneration. "This is a task for the state and for the business sector," he said.
