Nicaragua and the United States are seeking opportunities to expand bilateral trade, official sources said Friday.
President Daniel Ortega met with Vice President of U.S. Chamber of Commerce Jodi Bond on Thursday and "spoke extensively," state news portal El 19 Digital reported, citing government spokeswoman Rosario Murillo.
Ortega and Bond discussed "all the possibilities, all the options for trade and business exchanges between Nicaragua and the United States," said Murillo.
The U.S. envoy "acknowledged the progress Nicaragua has been making in renewable energy, expanding trade ties with the United States, and in many other areas," Murillo added.
Bond told reporters after the meeting that she gathered information on the feasibility of building a deep-water canal in the Central American nation, and will share the data with interested U.S. investors.
Bond wrapped up her two-day visit on Friday after meeting with local business operators
