Bahrain Aluminum Company (Alba) experienced a power station outage on Wednesday, April 5 that resulted in a temporary loss of power in all 5 Reduction Lines for approximately 3 hours.
Alba subsequently restored all power operations. Reduction Lines 1-4 are operating at normal levels while Reduction Line 5 was partially running and is expected to return to be fully operational by early Q3 2017. The Company stated that it safely managed through the incident with no injuries.
The Company estimates the incident will result in a loss of 3% to 5% of its total production for 2017 and the losses from the incident will be part of an insurance claim. The Company is conducting an investigation into the root causes of this incident. In addition, the recovery process is already underway and the Company has begun "re-starting" the pots which were affected by the incident.
