Prime Minister Sherif Ismail asserted the government will take all necessary measures to carry out the Golden Triangle project.
The project contributes to achieving sustainable development in Upper Egypt region and boosting growth in its cities in a move to raise living standards, said Ismail during a meeting held late on Monday to tackle ongoing steps to implement the project.
The meeting was attended by the ministers of petroleum, trade and industry, investment, tourism and representatives from the Italian consultancy D'Appolonia - which won a bid to prepare a study on the project.
The project aims at making use of resources in Upper Egypt to carry out ventures in the different sectors of mining, agriculture and tourism along with upgrading a number of harbors there, said Cabinet Spokesman Hossam Qawish.
The project aims to create new industrial and mining projects on 6,000 square kilometers extending from the Red Sea cities of Safaga and Al Qusayr to Eastern Qena in Upper Egypt.
The proposed projects for the Golden Triangle developmental project include mining projects, such as using phosphate ore and establish fertilizers factories.
Other projects will utilize raw materials to manufacture cement from clay and limestone and produce gasoline from oil-based clay.
The project also entails tapping into agricultural lands in Qena governorate and constructing a number of tourist resorts in Dendara, Laqeta, and Qena Valley. It will also develop resorts and tourist villages between the Safaga and Al Qusayr areas.
