The prince of Mecca Khaled al-Faisal announced the implementation of the new Taiif projects, which include the Taiif International Airport, the restoration of the Okaz market, the technology Oasis and the housing and industrial city. The prince also inaugurated a number of development projects in the province.
Prince al-Faisal, who presided over the committee meeting at Taiif, approved the implementation of the new Taiif projects, which are located in the eastern part of the city on an area of 1250 square kilometers and can accommodate 750 thousand inhabitants.
The new Taiif project is characterized by a great location and an important functional capability since it centers the city's existing and surrounding agglomerations, with an estimated target population of 36% of the total population, taking into account the employment opportunities at the city.
The total assigned urban area is about 400 km squared. The Secretariat began implementing parts of the master plan for the new Taiif by handing over some of the sites to the competent authorities giving the city a developmental impetus. Major projects will be appointed with their future location such as the City University, the new airport, the oasis for technology, the market of Okaz, the camel-racing track, the residential suburb The Housing and the industrial city. Some of the sites have also been allocated to government agencies and work is under way on the allotment of others.
The New Taiif projects did not lose sight of the “Housing,” where the Housing Ministry is working on a housing project with an estimated area of 12 million square meters, which will include 6,670 villas, 3,919 apartments as well as 36 kindergartens, 28 schools, 37 mosques and a yard for the Eid prayer.
The Higher Committee for the development of Taiif also announced the execution of the “Corniche clouds” project, with 30 km of length and 13 km of width.
The project approximately covers 390 squares meters; it is located on the borders of the administrative center of the province of Taiif, which stretches from the south of al Bahah to the provinces of al Medina and the capital Riyadh in the north. It is 60 kilometers away from the south-east of Mecca and 130 kilometers east of Jeddah.
