Sheikh Thani bin Abdulla Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) announced the launching of the largest national campaign ever for helping the debtors in Qatar. The campaign will be carried out in co-operation with government organisations such as ministries of interior, social affairs, and endowments and Islamic affairs and Supreme Judicial Council. Qtel is a partner in the whole exercise and the event’s media sponsor is Al Sharq Arabic daily. The new initiative of RAF was announced at a briefing at the foundation’s headquarters. Director general of RAF and chairman of the board of the directors, Ayidh bin Dabsan al-Qahtani, head of community service department and head of the debtors fund, Dr Yahya al-Noaimi, representative of ministry of social affairs and deputy head of debtors fund, corporate communication head of Qtel, Adel al-Mutawwa, and member of the Debtors Fund Mohsin Abbad al-Ajji spoke. The new campaign “Debt is Disgraceful “ is executed as a part of the commitment of the Foundation towards serving the local community, which it said is the first priority of its humanitarian services. “The RAF has launched the campaign in response to the feelings of debtors in the society and the stressful mental condition suffered by this segment. It is also considering the adverse consequences of the stress on the family of the debtors,” said RAF director general Ayidh al-Qahtani. The director general added the campaign will be implemented in two phases, in which the first one focusses on spreading awareness in the local community on the consumption culture that causes debts. Through the campaign, the organisers will caution the members of the society against taking loans for unnecessary matters. The second phase is marketing. Through this funds will be collected for payment of the debts of prisoners and those against whom cases are in the courts or others threatened with imprisonment owing to debts. The campaign, which began yesterday, will run until the end of the year. The awareness phase will end on October 1 and the educational phase will be held between October 2 and December 31. Priority will be given to Qatari families during the campaign.
