The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Prof. Ibrahim Adam Al-Dekhairi has called for development of clear policies for tree farming to encourage production and processing of gum Arabic, stressing the need to remove the intersections and creation of a mechanism for coordination between the relevant parties.
The minister admitted, when he addressed at the Ministry's Hall Wednesday a workshop on the natural resources, existence of problems facing the gum specifications, stressing his ministry determination to develop a package of policies to promote the Acacia gum export to compete globally.
For his part, the Minister of Animal Resources, Fisheries and Pastures Prof. Musa Tibin asserted the need for the optimum use of the natural resources, considering that as the responsibility of several parties.
Meanwhile, some agricultural experts participating in the workshop urged preventing export of unprocessed gum Arabic. The Agricultural Expert Dr. Ali Dangl pointed to the importance of taking advantage of the added value of the Arab gum.
The Professor at the University of Sudan for Science and Technology Dr. Mohamed Al-Mubarak called for the need to raise the price of a one quintal of gum Arabic of the two types of acacia trees to 2,400 and 1,600 pounds, respectively, to increase the returns of the producers to 54%.
