Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) governor Tarek Amer said that Egypt had paid the last installment of its debt to Qatar.
Speaking to MENA, Amer said the CBE paid one billion dollars worth of the remaining debt to Qatar, whose Qatari National Bank had covered securities and bonds issued during the rule of deposed president Mohamed Morsi.
Amer reiterated that Egypt is committed to paying all its overseas debt, stressing it has never defaulted.
On Thursday, the CBE governor said Egypt would repay the last installment of the Qatari debt, along with 800 million dollars of its total 3.5-billion-dollar debt to Paris club.
