One of the big dance events of 2011, the Pet Shop Boys/Javier De Frutos collaboration 'The Most Incredible Thing' returns for another run. Based on the Hans Christian Andersen story, about a king who offers half his kingdom (and marriage to his daughter) to the person who can present him with 'the most incredible thing', it's a show packed full of visual, choreographic and storytelling ideas. Actually, at the show's first outing, it seemed there might be too many ideas packed in there, the result being uneven and sometimes lacking clarity and flow, but there were some great scenes and good performances. The Pet Shop Boys score is not paticularly subtle in its emotional pointers, but it helps make this a narrative dance show that looks and sounds like no other.
