An audience based performance, Mission Roosevelt will bring 100 wheelchairs to downtown, with participants using them to maneuver the busy streets of Cairo. The wheelchairs are a metaphor for social disparity, and a tool to explore and conquer it in a fun and engaging experiment.
Mission Roosevelt is created by the Tony Clifton Circus, an American Italian group interested in challenging the norm with art and performances that evoke laughs from audiences, while also daring them to hold it in.
At the same time and place, the dance performance titled African Export will merge a capoeira dance, the Afro-Brazilian maculelê dance, as well as Gnawa and Berber music from Morocco, in a tribute to the value of African origins in the history of music.
The dances of African Export will be performed by Egyptian group T.K Capoeira, to music by the Looperia Project, also from Egypt.
Netherlands dance group, The 100 Hands, will offer two consecutive duet performances. The Unpracticality of Beauty, which expresses and explores the universality of being a woman, and Tender Violence, which in contrast explores the public understanding of manhood and how it differs across foreign cultures.
The last dance performance of the day will feature 100 Pas Presque, choreographed by Moroccan Taoufiq Izeddiou, in collaboration with Ezzat Ismail.
Performed by students of the Cairo Contemporary Dance, featuring freelance dancers, 100 Pas Presque is a contemporary dance performance evoking slow motion movements that break down gestures and produce a new rhythm, challenging the perception of body, space and time.
Later in the evening A (Micro) History of World Economics, Danced will be performed at The Greek Campus.
The performance will bring 50 unprofessional participants who will express themselves through everyday movements, ultimately creating a careful dance choreography from raw expression.
A (Micro) History of World Economics, Danced was brought to Cairo by the award winning Pascal Rambert, artistic director of the French Théâtre de Gennevilliers. After touring France, the performance was then recreated in Japan, Germany and the USA.
