Will Young makes his West End musical theatre debut in Rufus Norris’ Olivier Award-winning production of Cabaret. The Pop Idol winner, who is now one of the UK's most successful music artists, will take on the role of the enigmatic Emcee in Norris' dark production. Based on Christopher Isherwood’s book I Am A Camera, Cabaret is set during the Nazis’ rise to power in 1931 Berlin, focusing on the relationship between 19-year-old English cabaret star Sally Bowles and a young American writer Cliff Bradshaw. Norris’ production of Cabaret features music from John Kander and Fred Ebb, including the iconic songs Money Makes The World Go Round, Two Ladies, Maybe This Time and, of course, Cabaret. While Young’s appearance in Cabaret marks his musical theatre debut in the West End, he has previously starred in Noel Coward’s The Vortex at the Manchester Royal Exchange and alongside Judi Dench in the film Mrs Henderson Presents. Cabaret also features choreography from the Olivier Award-winning Javier De Frutos whose work includes The Hypochondriac Bird, Affliction Of Loneliness and the recent collaboration of Sadler's Wells and The Pet Shops Boys The Most Incredible Thing. Famously immortalised in the famous 1972 film starring Liza Minnelli after its Broadway premiere in 1966, the iconic musical returns to London following an acclaimed two year run at the Lyric theatre, which featured an award-winning performance by Sheila Hancock.
